Obie - The Doxie is the Biggest Winner!
If you haven't heard by now, Obie, the Dachshund that weighed in at 77 lbs, has become the Biggest Winner! After being relinquished to a rescue organization from an elderly couple that showered this "little" wiener dog with food, Obie tipped the scales at 77 lbs. This "standard" dachshund should have averaged around the 30 - 33 pound mark.
His new adoptive mom, Nora Vanatta, has been working hard with Obie to slim him down slowly so that he can live a healthy, and normal, doggy life. This included Obie getting to a healthy weight through diet and exercise, and then going through a surgical procedure to have all the excess skin removed from the loss of all that weight.
Obie was in dire straits, barely able to walk, had to be fit with a special harness, and put on a special weight-loss food. Through Nora's dedication, hard-work, and with the help of her other 2 dogs who have been encouraging and assisting this "little"; wiener dog achieve a remarkable healthy normal weight, on May 21st, Obie weighed in at 33 lbs and 4 ozs after his surgery!
Obie will forever be known as the Biggest Loser, Doxie Edition, and has inspired many pet-parents to get their own pets on track to being healthy.
