1,200 Dogs Saved from Meat Smugglers!

By Bri Luginbill More Blogs by This Author

As unbelievable as it may be to people here in the US, illegal smuggling of dogs to use as meat is a global and growing problem. Luckily though, there are significant efforts being made to stop this. Soi Dog is just one of the organizations that attempt to combat the practice, and they recently succeeded in saving 1,200 from this terrible fate!

Intercepted in 2 different raids in Thailand, Royal Thai Army Rangers, Royal Thai Navy Border Control, and animal activists worked together to bust a large dog-smuggling ring.

What they found were these poor dogs, contained in a huge cage and living in conditions that were less than desirable, to say the least. All were then transported to dog shelter facilities in Nakhom Phanom, Thailand, and many of the dogs are now being treated for eye infections and lacerations on their bodies.

Including medical care, dog food, bathing, Soi Dog foundation covered all the cost of the dog's care and treatment. In all, over 12 tons of dog food was supplied – but they couldn’t have done it without the generosity of donors.
