Having high blood sugar levels can have devastating effect on the body over time. Among other things it may cause:

   • Permanent eye damage or blindness.
   • Decreased sensation in the hands and feet and also diabetic neuropathic pain caused by diabetic nerve damage.
   • Decreased speed of digestion, abdominal pain and bloating caused by diabetic nerve damage in the intestines.
   • Increased chance of heart attack and stroke.
   • Kidney damage and kidney failure.
   • Poor wound healing.
   • Lowered ability to fight infections, which may lead to gangrene and limb amputation.

I have seen more than my fair share of people that have had to have feet removed for poor circulation along with gangrene. I know that that scares me plenty and that I will never have that issue if I end up with diabetes, which runs in my family. I know that I can take care of it and not have those terrible problems later in life!
