Cinnamon Helps Diabetics Control Blood Sugar Naturally


In the past two decades diabetes sufferers have grown from 30 million to an alarming 230 million people around the world. Only 10 percent of diabetes sufferers are type 1 diabetics leaving the majority of the increase to type 2 diabetics. The most common causes of type 2 diabetes are poor lifestyle and being overweight. Research on Cinnamon Lowering Blood Sugar Levels

During a study done by the Human Nutrition Research Center, a branch of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Richard Anderson and his colleagues found that apple pie had the ability of lowering blood sugar levels because it boosted the production and efficiency of insulin in type 2 diabetics. After further research they found that it was the cinnamon in the apple pie that was actually responsible for the action. This is because cinnamon contains methylhydroxy chalcone polymer which naturally helps convert glucose to energy. (1) At the same time another study was being conducted in Pakistan by Alam Khan. Khan administered a quarter of a teaspoon of cinnamon twice per day to 60 type 2 diabetics for forty days. After the study was completed Khan found that every participant in his study experienced lower blood sugar levels as long as they were taking the cinnamon consistently. (1) Because of recent research on cinnamon many physicians are beginning to recommend daily dosages of cinnamon to their type 2 diabetes patients. During an interview with the American Diabetes Association,Linda Higgins, R.Ph., a drug information specialist said that Cinnamon, taken orally, can lower blood sugar levels and improve type 2 diabetes. She goes on to say that the research suggests that taking 1 to 6 grams of cinnamon for 40 days can also lower fasting serum glucose by 18-29%. (2)
