10 Steps to Natural Weight Loss and Health: Step 7, An Active Lifestyle
It's easy to get caught up in the slump of our daily routines. We get up, go to work, come home and have dinner, and then there are just a few hours between dinner and bedtime. Going to the gym is the last thing anyone wants to do during those few hours. What we should focus on is making the most of the free time we have.
Exercise doesn't need to involve going to the gym and sweating for hours at a time. Exercise can be small activities incorporated into your daily routine. If you aren't interesting in paying money to work out at a gym, there are simple ways to just get more active in your daily routine.
Work it in Where You Can
If you can't get to the gym, make the most of the activity you do. Park further away from the door at the grocery store and at work. Take stairs as much as you can. Some people even report using a restroom on another floor just to get in some extra movement. If you have a desk job, you'll probably enjoy a little movement to stretch your muscles. Keep moving once you get home. Put on some music while you clean and dance around. Do squats while you wash the dishes. Rough-house with your kids or go outside and play tag.
Turn Off The TV
The key is to fit in activity where you can. If your family tends to crash in front of the television right after dinner, skip the shows and go for a walk, play catch or tag. Being active with your family is a great way to teach your kids about living a healthy lifestyle and will strengthen the family bond. Team up and hold mini-tournaments on weekends or play against another family. There are dozens of activities you can do with your kids. Your whole family will experience the benefits.
Count Your Steps
Fitness experts love this one and it makes a lot of sense. Pedometers are great ways to visually see results. Strap on a pedometer and go about your daily routine; don't make any changes. Once you know your average daily steps, set a goal for yourself to increase the numbers. You may find it easy to throw in an extra 500 steps in a day by making small changes. Track your daily or weekly goals each night and feel proud of what you'se accomplished. To further motivate yourself, make a sign of your monthly goal. If you achieve it, reward yourself with something nice, like a makeover, massage or even a movie. It's simple to make simple lifestyle changes to increase the amount of physical activity you have. Involving your family is a great way to bond with the kids as well as be a good role model and have some fun!
