I have an older diabetic cat. He was diagnosed last summer. I have to buy him special food and have 3 inside cats. I buy the DM but it is costing me $100.00 a month and I have to buy needles, insulin and pay for doctor visits. Is there a cheaper food?  Want good food, but hoping there are other choices that I can buy locally at a store and not order it or get it at vet. It is costing me so much I don't know how much longer I can do this. My cats are my babies. Please let me know if there is another choice. Thank you. -Vicki-

Dear Vicki,

Diabetic cats should not be fed any dry food at all. Low carbohydrate canned foods that are nonprescription include Friskies Classic Pate Salmon, Fancy Feast - Savory Salmon Feast, Turkey and Giblets Feast, and White Meat Chicken Florentine. These are 2% or lower in carbohydrates. These are other options for cats who don't like the prescription food.

Have you used Dia-IonX and other supplements?

Best regards,
