I rescued a kitten about 6 wks old crying in a tall tree, no mother in sight.  She is old enough now and will be spayed next week. We have tried, and are still trying to get her adopted, though we adore her and wish she could stay. She has come back twice, people love her but she doesn't get along with their other pets. Nobody seems willing to give it much time. The problem is that the moment my female cat set eyes on the kitty she was terrified. The kitty is definetely an alpha and I guess she knew it immediately. One male cat puts up with her, the other male kind of likes her. It is not any better after 6 or 7 weeks for my female. My female cat stays outside all day (winter is coming!) and comes in to eat (in the bedroom, with the kitty locked out) AFTER calling her for hours, and sleeps in the bed with us. Depressed, doesn't want to play but still eats well. I brush her every night but she is getting less affectionate. This is MY cat, we are (were?) very close and affectionate. Should I take her to the vet to see if sick and get something for depression? Have tried flower essences, no improvement so reluctant to try homeopathic. Will it maybe be better after the kitty is spayed? -Carol-

Dear Carol,

You could try Anxietrex in the water bowl so that all the cats will get some. It might help to reduce the tension. Spaying the kitten could help too.

Please let us know how you do.
