Does anyone have any cat food that one can make from scratch with things we have on hand at home? I am running out of money and can buy tuna, but don't want to feed my 3 cats just that - they come to expect it and I think they should eat something that won't interfere with their digestion. Any one have any suggestions for me?

Unfortunately, making your own complete cat food (not just treats, but an actual feed that supplies all the nutrients they need to stay healthy) tends to be more expensive, not less than commercial brands.

Plus cats need Taurine (a very important amino acid that cats require). Taurine deficiency can cause eye and heart diseases. Unlike humans, a cats body lacks in producing this. It is not recommended to feed a cat "homemade" meals, unless you can meet all their dietary requirements. They also need more protein and less carbs too. Hope this helps.

JP - I mentioned this to a friend recently because I really wish there was some more concrete way I could have helped you and they told me that actually, there are several big cat food companies that will send owners coupons for free bags of food if you write explaining the problem you're dealing with. So for you and anyone else dealing with this issue, I'd give that a try!
