Cat Befriends Orphaned Baby Robin
That was the sound Karin Caston heard in her backyard one sunny afternoon. She turned to look and saw a tiny, baby robin in the grass that had fallen from its nest. She hurried to rescue the bird before any of her cats got to it first.
However, as she did she noticed one of the robin’s wings was damaged from the fall. At that moment she decided she'd take it upon herself to nurse the little fellow back to health.
"I've never done any thing like this before, but it was something that I felt that I could do -- I just had an inner sense that I had to take care of him -- to give him a chance."
Karin decided to name him Peeps. She carefully put him into a cage so the cats wouldn’t become too curious. But, Peeps had a different idea. Probably missing the warmth of his missing mama bird, little Peeps would nestle into the fur of her cats whenever he was out of his cage. And strangely, they didn’t seem to mind either!
“They tolerated him!” said Karin.
Now Peeps is all healed up and ready to be released into the wild. Although Karin’s goal was to get him back into his home environment, she admits it was sad to let him go.
