Elect Hank the Cat for Senate in 2012
A new political ad is urging constituents to vote for Hank the Cat for a U.S. Senate seat in Virginia in 2016. The video has been posted on YouTube and has nearly 250,000 views, thus far. The ad begins with Hank expressing his displeasure with the current state of American politics:
"Our representatives came to Congress with big plans. What did we get? The brink of financial default, important legislation ignored and forgotten, a national credit downgrade for the first time ever, and the most unaccomplished Congress in history."
This ad mimics the feel of Mitt Romney’s current advertisements, but instead of the narrator suggesting the viewer, "Vote Romney," the ad takes a humorous turn and insists we, “Vote the Humans Out!”
According to Hank's "Campaign Manager," Matthew O'Leary, the cat's candidacy is an attempt to bring a degree of levity to the upcoming political elections. In fact, an opposing SuperPac, Canines for a Feline Free Tomorrow, had the following to say about the kitty candidate:
"Hank has never released his birth certificate, his tax returns and has never responded to allegations that he used catnip. He says he's gone to the vet — but there's no record of him having served in any military branch. Would Hank force females to undergo an ultrasound before being spayed? And should a Maine coon really be running for Senate in Virginia? We need more facts and fewer fat cats in Washington."
It would seem as though this vitriolic rhetoric is in line with the axiom, "fighting like cat's and dogs," but we're all used to that by now.
Hank the Cat actually made a campaign stop on August 18th from 5-8pm at Fairfax County’s Beulah Park in Virginia. Free hotdogs and hamburgers were provided, and a raffle was held for "Hank the Cat" campaign memorabilia. All proceeds from the event will be donated to various animal rights groups.
Hank seems pretty laid back to me and just look at those eyes!? ;)
See the ad for yourself (Hank the Cat wears some pretty cute bow-ties!)
